Midori's Draconic Awakening

Notes for Reference: Mikoto is actually the daughter of a Nohrian commoner and Hoshidan noble (both with Vallite ancestry) who ran away to Valla to be together. Mikoto was later adopted by the Vallite royal family, who had befriended her parents before their deaths and took her in after. This is to make it so Hisame, who is Azura's son and Midori, who is Corrin's daughter, do not have issues in being together. Both Corrin and Azura know about this.
After the war, enough power was granted to Lilith to return to her human form. She now works happily as both an advisor and guardian of the children. Sakura also talks normally now to show that she has grown out her stuttering phase. Now that Corrin is Queen of Valla, and with Takumi now in Nohr, Hinoka decided to study up on politics and take up royal responsibilities alongside Ryoma, as his right hand. They both agreed that Hinoka should have some preparation in the case anything happens to Ryoma before Shiro is old enough to, as the populace wouldn't trust Leo acting as regent.
Also this makes use of children born from M/M and F/F pairings, made possible via omegaverse rules. Omegas are the mothers and alphas the fathers. Betas are normal humans and therefore only beta females can be mothers and same for beta males as fathers. The children do not have dynamics yet as they are children and have not presented (which happens in their teenage years and works like puberty)
Deeprealms do not exist, so all children were born either during or after the war. Also onigokko is Japanese for tag, and nawatobi is Japanese for jump rope.
The reason of Hoshidan hostility is based on real life Japan, who is unwelcoming at best to mixed children. My English tutor had a cousin who married a Japanese exchange student, moved to Japan with her, then moved back to Canada with his family due to bullying his mixed children experienced. Also realistically, expecting all of Hoshido to forgive Nohr's invasions and the deaths of the King and however many soldiers and civilians is not feasible. Some nobles are bitter over having to give up resources to Nohr as part of helping Nohr improve their situation while other feel like Ryoma and Takumi marrying Nohrians is a betrayal to their country.
Children References:
Midori and Kana: Corrin (omega female) and Kaze's (alpha male) daughter and son
Hisame and Shigure: Azura (omega female) and Hinata's (beta male) sons
Shiro and Forrest: Leo (omega male) and Ryoma's (alpha male) sons
Siegbert and Kiragi: Takumi (omega male) and Xander's (alpha male) sons
Tsurugi: Hana (omega female) and Hinoka's (alpha female) son
Asugi: Sakura (omega female) and Saizo's (alpha male) son *Sakura named him Asugi because she didn't want him to grow up having the burden of the Saizo legacy while he was still young
Caeldori and Nina: Subaki (omega male) and Niles's (alpha male) daughters
Sophie: Setsuna (omega female) and Silas's (beta male) daughter
There are other children who have been born and exist at this time, they just happen to not be present.
Also a quick rundown on where everyone is living: Takumi lives with Xander in Nohr as Prince Consort of Nohr, and Leo lives with Ryoma in Hoshido as Prince Consort of Hoshido. Because Leo now lives in Hoshido, Niles also lives in Hoshido with Subaki, as Sakura and Saizo still remain in Hoshido. Hinata is still Takumi's retainer, though now he works as an envoy in Valla for both Nohr and Hoshido so he can stay by Azura's side. Setsuna similarly is still Hinoka's retainer but also lives in Valla with Silas, who became the Vallite Captain of the Guards.
Also the older kids speaking with such foul words? Bad parenting effects.
It had been a terrifyingly normal day when it happened.
Mama and Papa had took Midori and her little brother Kana to Hoshido. Mama said it was for an important adult meeting, between her, Uncle Xander, Uncle Ryoma, Uncle Takumi, Uncle Leo and some other nobles.
Midori had asked about what they were meeting about. Mama had just smiled and told her, "You're still young, Midori. Stay a child just a little longer, and one day I will teach you about ruling."
The details of that didn't matter for the little princess for now. She was going to see her cousins and friends! It was lonely living in Valla without getting to see them, with only Hisame and Sophie to keep her company. As much as she adored their presence, she still missed her many cousins and friends who stayed among the two kingdoms.
As it was Kana's first time leaving the kingdom, Midori couldn't help but babble nonstop about their family and her friends. "... and there's Caeldori and Nina, even though they're not actually our cousins. But we been together since we were both little and Caeldy is one of my bestest friends! Oh, but Sophie is still also one of my bestest friends too!"
Her babbling was soon cut off by her Papa. "We're here, Midori."
Midori excitedly came down her carriage. "Uncle Xander! Uncle Ryoma!"
Uncle Xander's stern-looking broke out into a warm smile. "Littlest Princess. It's good to see you. It is good to see you too, Corrin, Kaze, and of course Little Prince Kana."
"Welcome to Hoshido. It is also my pleasure to see you four. You've gotten bigger, Midori." added Uncle Ryoma.
Midori puffed up, "Uh huh! I'll be as big as you someday!"
Her uncles couldn't help but chuckle at the innocent comment.
"Hey Midori." Uncle Takumi soon came into view. "How have you been?" He asked as he patted the princess's head.
"Midori's been super good!" Midori beamed. "Mama is teaching me piano!"
"That's nice, hopefully your parents are also letting you keep up with your studies." Uncle Leo said as he also showed up.
"She has been learning fast." Papa spoke up. "Let them be children a little longer."
"Exactly, Leo!" Mama added, "She's only seven. Surely you're not subjecting Shiro and Forrest into a strict studying regime. Speaking of which, where are they, as well as Siegbert and Kiragi?"
"They're with their aunts at the moment," said Uncle Takumi. "They should be here-"
"Midori!" A blur of blond tackled the little Vallite princess, nearly knocking them over if it weren't for Uncle Leo's quick intervention. "Shiro! What did I tell you about running!"
"Sorry, Mama. I was just excited." Shiro grumbled.
"Did you get bigger than me? No fair!" Midori huffed. She was older than him by more than a year, how could her cousin be bigger than her now?
"It's okay, Midori." Another, more calmer voice, spoke up. "We still know you're the older cousin." It was Siegbert.
"Siegbert!" An energetic voice called out before a turquoise blur ran up and did knock the two over. It was Sophie.
"Oof! Hey, Sophie." Siegbert groaned as they both recovered from the fall.
"Sophie! Please be careful next time!" Uncle Silas called out as he rushed to his daughter.
"Sorry, Daddy! And sorry, Siegbert! Also hey Shiro!"
"There you are, Silas." Mama said, "Did Setsuna get held up by a pitfall?"
"Yeah," sighed Uncle Silas, "It held up both mine and Azura's carriages. Speaking of Azura, she and Hinata should be here soon." As he spoke, another carriage pulled up and out came the blue-haired Hoshidan-Vallite family.
"Pleasure to see you, Siegbert, Shiro." Hisame spoke as he also came up the steps of Shirasagi with his parents, Shigure tailing behind him.
"Hey, Hisame! Hey, Shigure!" Shiro replied.
"It's good to see everyone." Aunt Azura said in her calm voice, while Uncle Hinata happily greeted his liege.
"Don't forget us!" Aunt Hinoka piped up as she, Hana, Saizo, and Sakura also joined up with everyone, Tsurugi, Asugi, Kiragi and Forrest all toddling behind them. "It's good to see you, Midori." Sakura added.
"Tsurugi! Asugi! Kiragi! Forrest!" Midori called out excitedly.
"Heya Midori." Asugi responded in a feigned aloofness, while Tsurugi huffed next to him. "Don't act all cool, you missed Midori too!"
"Stop it Tsu!" Asugi snapped back with a blush. Midori giggled and hugged her cousin, ignoring his squirms. Then she hugged Tsurugi too.
Kiragi excitedly jumped to hug Midori next, which Midori received happily. She affectionately ruffled his hair. At least I'm still bigger than him and Forrest.
Forrest hung back shyly but waved at Midori. He was soon jumped by Sophie though, leading to chuckles from the adults.
"Forgot your fifth uncle?" Uncle Saizo's gruff voice sounded, Midori giggled before letting him scoop her up affectionately.
"Okay, my turn now!" Aunt Hana chirped as she took Midori from Uncle Saizo, albeit reluctantly on the ninja's part.
"Where's Caeldy and Nina?" Midori asked.
"They're with their parents." Uncle Leo responded. "They will be here shortly, as our retainers are getting things ready."
"Lady Midori!" Caeldori ran over, her parents and Nina behind her. "It's so good to see you again!" Caeldori exclaimed with a bow.
"Don't call Midori that!" Midori huffed. "Midori is Midori, and still just your friend!"
"Right... sorry La- I mean Midori."
"Look at you, Sprout." Uncle Niles remarked. "Growing up quick, aren't you? Caeldori's been talking nonstop about seeing you again."
"Daddy!" Caeldori exclaimed, blushing in embarrassment.
"It's okay, I've missed Caeldy too!" Midori laughed before hugging the younger girl.
"It looks like all the children have been accounted for." Uncle Ryoma's voice boomed. "Now then, sister, is Lilith present?"
"Right here!" Aunt Lilith's habit of appearing through portals from the Astral Plane was something everyone still had yet to get used to, and it made everyone jump. "Sorry about the hold up, I had to organize a few things over at Fort Corrin! I should be ready for the kids now!
Aunt Sakura and Aunt Lilith gently guided the gaggle of children to Shirasagi's palace yard. "Oh! I should mention, some of the nobles we are discussing business with have children of their own. Hopefully, you'll all get along together. It would be wonderful for building relations."
The quiet Hoshidan princess gestured towards the new arrivals. "These are Ichirou, Akane, and Ryouta. I hope you all will get along. I need to attend the meeting now. Lilith, I leave them to you now."
Midori was excited. More friends to play with! "Hello! I'm Midori!"
However, this quickly changed when she saw the other children. Instead of the warm excitement she had seen with her cousins and friends, she could feel coldness from them. They were a bit older than Midori and her friends. It wasn't even like Asugi trying to act cool, she had a feeling they weren't that welcome. She shook off the feeling though. Maybe they were just shy or not good with interaction. Or maybe they thought they were too big to play with kids like her.
"Midori, look!" Caeldori's exclamation cut the Vallite princess's troubled thoughts. "Nawatobi!"
"Oh yay! I love playing that! Nina, Sophie, want to play too?"
"Oh of course!" Sophie nodded, "Siegbert, you come with us too!"
"Ah yes, I'll play with you too." Siegbert agreed as he held one end of the rope.
Nina seemed distracted watching the boys playfighting with toy weapons, but when Shigure came over with similar interest, she was quick to join in too.
They spent some time skipping together and taking turns turning and jumping. Although they had a few trips and tangles, (Mostly by Sophie) the children had good fun while Shiro, Tsurugi, Asugi, and Hisame sparred. Forrest and Kiragi, being younger than the others, settled for playing with some of the other toys while Lilith watched over them.
"Who wants to play onigokko?" It was Akane.
"Ooh me!" Midori ran over excitedly, dropping her rope. She loved tag!
"Me too!" Caeldori said, before she was suddenly blocked by Ryouta.
"You can't play! It's for Hoshidans only!" The older boy glared at her.
"I am Hoshidan! My mother is one!" Caeldori fired back, hurt showing in her eyes. Midori rushed over to her side and glared back at him. "Yeah, how could you say that?!" Midori shouted.
"That's not what my parents say," Ichirou sneered. "Your mother was a filthy traitor who bedded Nohrian scum to make a half-breed. You."
"Stop that!" Midori snapped back. "Uncle Subaki is no traitor! He's always been faithful to Aunt Sakura! And Uncle Niles has always been good to me and everyone else! And Nohr isn't the enemy anymore!"
The shouting soon got the attention of the other children and Aunt Lilith. "Listen, children, please play nicely-"
"My daddy died defending Hoshido from the Nohrian invaders!" Akane hissed, "You think we'd just let their half-breed scum play with us like nothing happened?"
"My daddy refused to hurt any Hoshidans!" Sophie retaliated. "He's not scum!"
"Hey! Not cool." Asugi remarked, remaining as cool as ever, "Caeldori and Sophie weren't there anyway."
"It is unfair for you to judge them for things other Nohrians did in the past." Hisame agreed.
"Please, let's not make a big deal out of it," Siegbert tried to reason, "We'll do something else."
"That's a wonderful idea, Prince Siegbert." Aunt Lilith agreed tensely, as she started trying to pull the children away from the noble bullies.
"Yeah, run away, you cowardly prince!" Ryouta taunted, "Go back to Nohr with your traitorous whore of a mother and scum of a father."
"Knock it off!" Tsurugi snapped, "Uncle Takumi is as Hoshidan as I am. And Siegbert is one of us while he's here!"
"Ryouta, watch your language! That is no way to speak about anyone, much less the King and Prince Consort of Nohr!" Aunt Lilith scolded. Siegbert meanwhile, tensed before replying back "Don't speak of my parents like that."
"Or what?" Ichirou jeered, "You'll tell your mommy? He's no Hoshidan after bedding the King of Scum. He's a whore that threw away Hoshido for-"
*POW*
"I've heard enough," growled Shiro, "You don't get to talk about my cousin or uncles like that."
"Shiro, no!" Caeldori cried, "They're trying to get you into trouble!"
"Look at how savage the prince is acting!" Akane gasped dramatically, "It must be from the Nohrian half of him!"
"Shiro is as Hoshidan as we are!" Tsurugi countered. "And Uncle Leo is devoted to Hoshido! Stop saying such things!"
"Well, then why does he keep around that creepy guy from the Nohrian slums. Their father." Ichirou drawled, gesturing to Caeldori and Nina.
Nina glared in anger, "My daddy isn't creepy! It's not his fault he grew up there!"
"Yeah stop it!" Shigure agreed, "What is wrong with you?"
"What's wrong with us?" Ryouta glared back. "What's wrong with them? They should have never existed! Hoshido was peaceful without you Nohrian scum invading us!"
Meanwhile, Midori's anger from listening to the horrid things they were saying was growing. "Please just stop it! All we wanted was to play a game of tag!"
Ichiro sneered at the little princess before shoving her to the ground, "Oh look the shorty thinks she's so strong! It's all your mother's fault anyway! She had to come here and ruin Hoshido!"
"Midori!" Hisame ran to her side in concern. "Are you okay?"
Close by, Shiro was fuming, but Caeldori and Aunt Lilith were restraining him from trying to attack the noble children again.
"Yeah it's that dragon freak's fault Hoshido is now having to give everything to Nohr!" Akane screeched. "My daddy died for nothing because of her!"
"My dad says it's all your mom's fault he has to give up so much stuff to the Nohrians" Ryouta added. "And now they walk in with their half-breed freaks like you acting like you belong here!"
Something snapped inside Midori. The uncontrollable anger surged within her. She wanted the bullies to scream, cry, suffer.
Just like that, the world seemed to drown out completely as the draconic urges consumed her. And she begun to shift.
Midori had seen her mama transform once. It was when a bad guy slipped into her room and tried to hurt her. Midori had screamed and in an instant, Mama rushed in, shifting into her dragon form and pinned him down. Papa later took the bad guy away. Midori asked Mama about it, when Mama was tucking her in.
"What was that, Mama?"
"Oh! Midori, that was one part of Mama. My father was a dragon, and I have the power to turn into one through my dragonstone." Mama had said.
"Do you mean Grandpa Garon or Grandpa Sumeragi?" Midori had asked in confusion.
"Neither." Mama had answered. "They may have been the ones who raised me, but the one who made me, like your papa made you, was the one who was a dragon."
"Do you think I can turn into one?" Midori had asked, not really getting what her mama meant about her papa.
"I don't know, actually..." Mama had said with some hesitiation. She seemed to look sad as she suddenly stared off, looking at nowhere.
"Mama?"
"Oh! Sorry, Midori, I was just lost in thought." Mama said while looking sad. "I just hope you don't learn about it like I did. I didn't like the way I found out I could become one."
Midori felt her tiny body pulsing with power, and rage. She roared, not caring for the screams of the children around her. She wanted them to squirm in fear. If they saw a draconic freak, then let them see one.
"Midori!"
She could hear her name being called out, but it seemed so far away, like she was underwater. She knew nothing of what was going all, all that she wanted was to make the bullies pay, make them cry, scream, suffer.
Suddenly something, or rather someone grabbed onto her somehow. She thrashed around, angered at her captor. It wasn't enough what she had done! She wanted those bullies to cry, scream, SUFFER.
But then, a gentle song reached out to her. You are the ocean's gray waves... Destined to seek life beyond the shore, just out of reach... It reminded Midori of her kindness, her gentle heart, her humanity. And just like that, the anger faded away, she could also feel her energy fading too, as she shifted back, and realized she was now in her mama's arms.
"Midori! You're back to normal!" Hisame exclaimed.
"Oh Midori... my poor baby..." Mama was in tears.
"Mama...? What...? What happened?" Midori couldn't seem to tell what was going on anymore. But from what she could see, all the adults had now gathered.
"You lost control of your powers," said Papa, "It seems you inherited that part of your mother. Hisame calmed you down."
"I... I did?" Midori asked. "Did I hurt anyone?"
"It's okay, Midori." Hisame said, "Aunt Lilith kept us safe. No one was hurt, just scared."
"Now that everyone has calmed down," Uncle Ryoma's voice boomed. No... this wasn't the friendly family man that was Uncle Ryoma. This was King Ryoma of Hoshido, who was a stern and intimidating ruler. "What happened here?"
"It's Princess Midori and Prince Shiro's fault." Ichirou hissed. "They didn't like how we were playing and attacked us."
"You're lying!" Shiro snapped back, "Dad, it's because they wouldn't let us play together, because we aren't Hoshidan enough." The last part was laced with bitterness.
"Lord Ryoma, in that case the fault is mine," said Caeldori, "Midori and Shiro got angry on my behalf."
"I knew that dragon and Nohrians were no good for Hoshido." An older man, Ichirou's father, sneered, "Just look at what your half-breeds did-"
"That's enough." Mama retaliated. "Speak ill of me however you want, but leave my family and friends out of it." She glared at the noble before wrapping a protective arm around Midori.
Papa similarly came in front of Mama protectively, "Do not speak about my wife and daughter in that manner."
"It's all your fault anyway!" Akane's mother screeched, "My husband died protecting Hoshido from the Nohrian scum! You had the audacity to let Hoshido make peace as if nothing happened! And you," She glared at Uncle Subaki, "You were the first to whore-"
"Don't you dare say that about Subaki!" Aunt Hana cut in, "He's always been loyal to Hoshido. You have no right to think otherwise just because of the man he loves."
"You of all people are saying that, Lady Hana?" Ryouta's mother gasped, "Your father died at their hands! What would he think?"
Aunt Hana bristled at the comment. "My father was an honourable samurai who gave his life for his duty. But I won't blame all Nohrians for what happened to him. How dare you presume to speak for him!"
"I may have risked everything to love Niles, but I do not regret it." Uncle Subaki stated calmly. "But I have never betrayed my country for his sake, and he has never asked of it. Do not presume to know of what our relationship is, much less take it out on my daughters."
Aunt Sakura was next to speak up, "I would rather hear from the other children what they have to say. You've antagonized my retainers enough." Turning to the other children, she asked, "Is it Ichirou or Shiro who is speaking the truth?"
"Shiro is right." Hisame answered. "They refused to let Caeldori and Sophie play because of their fathers. Midori was only standing up for them."
"They also said really bad things about Uncle Takumi!" Tsurugi added. "We tried to stop it, but they just kept going."
"Yeah, and they said bad things about Caeldori's mom." Asugi confirmed.
"I think we heard enough from the children." Aunt Hinoka spoke up. "I'll prepare the reports."
"Excellent, Hinoka." Uncle Ryoma then turned to Uncle Saizo, "Saizo, take care of these nobles. We'll discuss punishment later."
"Let's head to your room, Midori." Papa finally said. "You had a long day."
-----------------
Midori curled up in her mama's childhood bed, holding the Mama doll Aunt Sakura had given her as a baby. The whole day kept running in her head. She had transformed like Mama? But everyone seem to be afraid of her. And she couldn't believe the way she lost control of her powers. Even though she wanted to teach the bullies a lesson, she never wanted to cause so much destruction and fear. Was this how Mama felt when her powers awakened?
The door opening interrupted her thoughts, as she looked up to see Mama coming in. She was holding a small, round stone in her hands. Mama gently sat down next to Midori and put a hand over her head. "Mama?"
"How are you feeling, Midori?" asked Mama.
"Midori is scared. I didn't want to actually hurt them, just for them to stop being mean. Is Uncle Ryoma going to do something bad to them?"
"No, sweetie. They're just children. Their parents will likely have to be punished with more Nohr reparations, but they're not going to be hurt." Mama answered.
"Okay..." Midori wasn't sure how to feel. Seeing the doubt on her daughter's face, Mama spoke again.
"I know how you feel, Midori. When I found out about my ability, it was when my own mother died."
"Your mama? You mean Grandma Mikoto?" asked Midori.
"That's right. She took an attack meant for me. And I lost control in my grief. But your Aunt Azura helped me come back to my senses. And she gave me a dragonstone for me to control it. She helped make this for you too." Mama explained as she gave the dragonstone to Midori.
"Then I won't do that again?" Midori asked as she held the shining dragonstone in her hands.
"It shouldn't happen again. But I am proud of you, Midori. You stood up for what was right." Mama told her.
"... I don't want to hurt people anymore, Mama. I want to help people. Midori wants to help people who are hurt. To heal." Midori finally said after some thought
"That's my girl. I'll speak to your father about teaching you about herbs." Mama smiled as she gently kissed Midori's head.
"Mama?"
"Yes, baby?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, Midori." Mama smiled again.
"Can you stay with me?"
"Of course, sweetie." Mama climbed into bed with her. Hugging the little girl gently, they soon curled up and fell asleep together.
